Medium Zapotec Rug - Multi Stripes

$1,875

This Zapotec rug is entirely handcrafted, made of wool from sheep in Northern Mexico, and with a cotton warp. The rugs are wool-woven in a traditional foot loom in Teotitlan del Valle, Oaxaca.

All dyes used are from natural plant sources, so no chemicals were used throughout the entire process of its creation. Some of the plant sources used include marigolds for yellow and orange, lichen for greens, pecan shells for brown, cochineal for tones of reds an oranges, indigo for purples and blues, and mesquite for black.

The looming process takes anywhere from 6 hours to 6 months, depending on the complexity of the design and size of the rug.
